Michael Eddy
LA PERRUQUE (HOMERS)
Michael Eddy is an artist, researcher and writer originally from Halifax, Canada. Since many years he has been developing his practice on social related issues. He studied in Canada, USA and Germany and worked all over Europe in different artist residence exchange programs His experience is various and complex and incorporates both collective and individual actions questioning the economical and socio-political status quo. Michael studies and explores alternative ways to organize public space and social gatherings in order to activate and stimulate the social fabric.He focused a long time on the nature, the process and the functioning modes of debate and group discussion. He worked for the Guangzhou and Beijing based gallery space Vitamin and, since 2008, he is co-directing the independent artist-run space Homeshop, in Beijing. At Bernard Controls he has chosen to explore an interesting topic: “homers”, traditionally called “la perrouque” in French; Michael had already started to research about this and similar topics together with his collaborators in the project: Knowleseddyknowles Here a quote from an email Michael sent inquiring about the possibility to continue this research as a part of the Social Sensibility R&D Program at Bernard Controls “Did you know my collaborators Knowles Eddy Knowles and I have been working on the topic of cigarettes since 2006, and on these objects made on company time with company materials called "homers" as described by Michael Anteby Harvard University Homers for several years as well?”

Michael Eddy est un artiste, chercheur et écrivain originaire d'Halifax, au Canada. Depuis de nombreuses années, il développe sa pratique sur les questions sociales. Il a étudié au Canada, aux États-Unis et en Allemagne et a travaillé partout en Europe dans différents programmes d'échange de résidences d'artistes. Son expérience est variée et complexe et intègre des actions collectives et individuelles remettant en question le statu quo économique et socio-politique. Michael étudie et explore des manières alternatives d'organiser l'espace public et les rassemblements sociaux afin d'activer et de stimuler le tissu social. Il s'est longuement penché sur la nature, le processus et les modes de fonctionnement du débat et de la discussion de groupe. Il a travaillé pour l'espace de galerie Vitamin basé à Guangzhou et Pékin et, depuis 2008, il co-dirige l'espace d'artiste indépendant Homeshop, à Pékin. Chez Bernard Controls, il a choisi d'explorer un sujet intéressant : les « homers », traditionnellement appelés « la perrouque » en français ; Michael avait déjà commencé à faire des recherches sur ce sujet et sur des sujets similaires avec ses collaborateurs dans le projet : Knowleseddyknowles vous connaissez mes collaborateurs Knowles, Eddy Knowles et moi travaillons sur le thème des cigarettes depuis 2006, et sur ces objets fabriqués pendant le temps de l'entreprise avec des matériaux de l'entreprise appelés "homers" tels que décrits par Michael Anteby Harvard University Homers depuis plusieurs années également ? »
